Strength-based Coaching: Noticing Moments of Effectiveness

A strength-based coaching approach honors a person’s capacity to learn, grow and create positive changes in practice.  In this session, the components of strength-based coaching will be described.  Strategies for connecting with teachers and extending learning during coaching will be shared.  Participants will practice noticing teacher’s moments of effectiveness through video and photo examples and learn different ways to share effective feedback.  

Teresa Byington, PhD


Teresa Byington, PhD is an Associate Professor/Extension Specialist in Early Childhood Education at the University of Nevada, Reno (Cooperative Extension). Her research interests include early childhood literacy, professional development (training and coaching) and the social-emotional development of young children. She is a frequent presenter at local, state and national conferences. Teresa is the PI (Principle Investigator) for several grant funded projects including the Infant Toddler CDA (Child Development Associate (CDA)/Coaching Program, Quality Rating Improvement Systems (QRIS) Environmental Rating Scale assessors and Nevada READY! Professional Development (training and coaching) grants. She is a trainer and coach and also trains other early childhood coaches on reflective coaching.
