Cheryl Williams-Jackson, PsyD

For more than 20 years, Cheryl Williams-Jackson, PsyD, has taught Child Development at the college level. She has also served as the Program Coordinator and Professor of Human Services where she focused on teaching mental health and chemical dependency counseling courses. Cheryl holds a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology. She is also a faculty member of the WestEd Program for Infant and Toddler Care Institutes.

Serving as an early childhood mental health consultant, she began researching ways to increase mental wellness in early care and education programs. It was through her fellowship with the Simms-Mann Foundation that she was able to create the Trauma-Informed System of Care (TISC). The TISC Program allows professionals to gain more in-depth knowledge of trauma-informed care that implements best practices and strategies to foster healing, optimum environments, and healthy relationships in professional settings. She is an advocate for children’s rights and a social justice activist and educator.

Mental Wellness in the Learning Environment

At the intersection of learning are life challenges. Consistent and intentional approaches and policies are needed to improve mental wellness in the learning environment. Implementing a system utilizing a trauma-informed lens can reduce emotional stressors and cultivate opportunities for acceptable behavior and learning. This interactive workshop takes participants through a series of challenging classroom scenarios and the opportunity to practice integrating trauma-informed fundamentals into a learning environment.
